Web TV Gets Real
According to a report released Tuesday by research firm Strategy Analytics, there will be about 186 million web-enabled TV devices (including everything from connected TVs to game consoles to Blu-ray players) in use worldwide by the end of 2008. And by 2014 two thirds of all CE products sold will include built-in internet access. »

Participants on two panels held Tuesday by the Silicon Flatirons group and the Colorado Cable Telecommunications Association said the service from the online movie rental company could be viewed as both "a threat and an opportunity." While the internet-enabled set-top would compete with cable's video offering, the industry can be "opportunistic" about the different tech trends shaping today's communications landscape, panelists said. »
