Gov't and Regulations: Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) wants the FCC to halt its quest for broadband re-regulation. His letter to chairman Julius Genachowski cites
fears that "the commission is proceeding along a precarious path that
will lead to bad policy and result in protracted litigation." --- The ACA got its two-week extension for reviewing documents on the Comcast/NBC-U
deal. New deadline is August 19. --- Retransmission reform is gaining
ground in D.C. as lawmakers pen letters saying the process needs
fixing. --- The FCC's 4Mbps broadband definition didn't go over well
at the rural telco OPASTCO meeting yesterday. "We'll have to wear them down," said John Rose, chairman of OPASTCO, in a panel presentation.
Crystal Ball: In-Stat says Wi-Fi-enabled devices will top 1.9 billion by 2014; that would beat Blu-ray, e-readers and digital TVs. Says VP Frank Dickson, technical issues "have been remedied."
