Al Jazeera Finds a Home; Super Bowl Ad Scores & More

Al Jazeera English coverage has found a home ... for now at least.  Denver-based Free Speech TV has added the network's live coverage of the unrest in Egypt to its offerings on DIRECTV and DISH.  (DIRECTV channel 348, DISH Network channel 9415 --- from 3:30pm - 7pm, 10pm - Midnight, and 3am - 8am EST.)  Coverage is also available via the non-profit's website.  Meanwhile rumors persist that Al Jazeera will find some coverage on top cable MSOs, whose executives are reportedly none too happy about the pressure.

In other programming news, a preliminary second-by-second analysis of Super Bowl viewing from Rentrak brings some good news for advertisers:  Viewers stay tuned during ads at an average rate of 98.8%.  (Well, maybe that's not such good news for Groupon, whose ad not only bombed but offended.  But hey.) ---  NBC has lined up Bridgestone, Subway, Toyota and ADT as sponsors for its 2011 USA Sevens International Rugby Championship which kicks off Saturday. --- MTV's "Skins" is reigniting calls for a la carte programming.  Writes The Mormon Time's Lane Williams, "The broader issue of MTV is the coercive nature of cable practices.  People shouldn’t have to pay for MTV just so they could watch 'Gilligan’s Island' on TV Land." --- Current TV has officially added Keith Olbermann to its line-up and list of investors. --- DIRECTV will carry a 3D version of GSN's "High Stakes Poker" on its n3D channel. --- ION says January '11 brought its best ratings ever with household viewers up 15% to 1,002,000.
