DIRECTV CFO: Momentum to Keep Going for Biz
DIRECTV expects to keep growing its satellite TV business, including customers, in the coming years, an executive told a financial conference Wednesday.

DIRECTV CFO Pat Doyle, speaking before the Morgan Stanley Communications Conference in Washington, D.C., said the company still sees netting between 1.5 million and 2 million customers in the next three years. "We still feel good about these numbers," he said of the projections. "Our product will allow us to keep the momentum going."

In terms of subscriber demographics, Doyle said about 40 percent of the customer base takes an advanced product, whether they are HDTV services or DVRs. About 50 percent of new customer additions sign up for an advanced service, he added.

New customers continue to come from the usual sources, whether it's defections from cable or a switch from DISH Network, Doyle said. Also, DIRECTV is gaining over-the-air customers.

As for future enhancements from the small dish service, Doyle said DIRECTV's video-on-demand product is going through beta testing and is set for launch at the end of the current quarter. The company's newest satellite, DIRECTV 11, should go online this summer, and expand the service's HD channel count to between 130 and 140.
