DISH/NDS Case: And the Verdict Is …
Press reports out of California late Wednesday stated that jurors have reached a verdict in the litigation pitting NDS Group against DISH Network. However, the federal judge overseeing the case had sealed the jury decision.
More news in the case could surface today.
The jury reached a verdict late Tuesday afternoon, following a single day of deliberations. However, Reuters said a member of the eight-person panel had reportedly spoken to an attorney for DISH, and that had the U.S. district judge overseeing the case pondering whether the contact is a serious legal issue.
The matter could lead to a mistrial in the case, Reuters said.
Nonetheless, the judge also could decide that the reported contact is not a legal issue and move the trial to the next step, the wire service said.
Another news report said the judge could read the verdict later this morning.
DISH and its conditional access provider NagraStar are seeking $1 billion in damages in the litigation, alleging that NDS compromised the conditional access technology utilized by the satellite TV service.
